With These Hands

This series honors those who came before us, whose hands built homes, raised families, created art, cooked meals, tilled soil, crafted objects, and cared for others. Their hands hold the memories of entire generations.

A dear friend asked if I would like to be part of a project highlighting accomplishment in the community. The brief was to take a picture of the participants hand’s, perhaps holding a prop symbolizing what they have created. The images are then put in a frame with a brief description they have provided to illuminate the achievement. My answer was an emphatic “YES” before she even finished explaining it to me.

This was an incredibly humbling photographic experience with wonderful people and heartfelt stories. I cannot thank Barbara at the Monmouth Community Senior Center enough for thinking of me and asking me to be a part of this. I would also like to thank Nate and Michelle at Focal Point Photography for their kindness in helping with the printing.
